A Collective Voice for the Arts
The Hawaii Consortium for the Arts (Consortium) is a private, non-profit arts service and advocacy organization.  Their membership consists of a broad base of visual, performing, media, and literary arts organizations, as well as individual artists and arts enthusiasts, who passionately believe that the arts enrich the vitality of their community.  The Consortium provides legislative advocacy as well as assistance in the form of technical workshops for artists and arts organizations, along with gathering and disseminating information pertinent to the arts in Hawaii .

The Arts Mean Business
They strongly believe that the arts not only enhance the quality of their lives, but also have a significant impact on the economy.  A recent study conducted by Americans for the Arts in partnership with the Hawaii Consortium for the Arts and the Hawaii Community Foundation, conclusively shows that the non-profit arts in Honolulu generate over $180 million in economic activity.   Honolulu 's arts-related spending delivers $15.8 million in local and state revenue.  This Arts & Economic Prosperity Report underscores the importance of partnerships between business and the arts, and the value of utilizing the arts in economic revitalization programs.

The Arts & Economic Prosperity Report Summary presents definitive results of interest, not only to those in the arts community, but also to those working in the government and business sectors, as well.  The report clearly suggests that by expanding the reach of the arts to their visitor industry they will provide a viable opportunity to revitalize tourism in their state .

They believe that the arts are a fundamental element of any thriving culture or community.  The Hawaii Consortium for the Arts advocates for resources and partnerships to sustain a healthy environment so that the arts can flourish.

One aspect of Arts Advocacy calls for them to maintain a presence at the Hawaii State Legislature and ensure that their legislative officials understand and support the essential value of the arts for Hawaii and its people.

They have solicited input from the larger community (advocates, artists, educators, legislators, arts enthusiasts and arts organizations) to develop an inclusive, sustainable public policy for the arts. In the coming months they will be expanding the Advocacy component of their web-site by providing:

… Action Alerts
… Sample letters to State Legislators
… Sample letters to the Governor
… Information on key Legislative Committees
… Links to the Hawaii State Legislature

They would like to help facilitate citizen involvement in the process of Arts Advocacy.  They appreciate your support, and as always, your suggestions and feedback are welcome.
